Barnacle

Barnacle Terms of Use

Last updated: 16 August 2026

These terms govern your use of the Barnacle app ("Barnacle", "we", "us"). By using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. What Barnacle does

Barnacle records subscriptions that you enter by hand, totals them, and schedules local reminders before a renewal date you have given it. It is a record of what you tell it. It does not connect to your bank, your card, or any store account, and it cannot see, start, change, or cancel any subscription on your behalf.

2. Accuracy is on you

Totals, renewal dates, and reminders are calculated from the figures you enter. A mistyped price or date produces a wrong total and a reminder on the wrong day. Prices the app suggests when you type a service name are stored defaults, not live prices, and a company can change what it charges at any time. Converted totals use rates bundled into the app at build time and are marked approximate. Barnacle is a budgeting aid, not financial advice, and not a substitute for your own statements.

3. Marking something cancelled

Marking a subscription cancelled in Barnacle records it in Barnacle. The company keeps charging you until you cancel with them. Only you can do that.

4. Purchases

Unlocking Barnacle is a single non-consumable purchase through the App Store, not a subscription, and it does not renew. Apple handles payment, and Apple's terms and refund process apply. The unlock is tied to the store account that bought it and can be restored on your other devices signed in to that account. It does not transfer to Android.

5. Your data and your backups

Your data lives on your device. Keeping it is your responsibility: uninstalling the app deletes it, and we hold no copy to restore. Encrypted backups are protected by a passphrase only you hold. If you lose that passphrase, the file cannot be recovered by us or by anyone.

6. Acceptable use

Do not attempt to reverse engineer, resell, or redistribute the app, except where that restriction is prohibited by law.

7. Warranty and liability

Barnacle is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We are not liable for missed payments, unwanted charges, overdrafts, or any other loss arising from your use of the app or from relying on figures it displays. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

8. Changes

These terms may change as the app changes. The date above is updated when they do.
